too young for a river cruise?

Comments

If you have your health, don't ever let anyone tell you that you're too old for a river cruise. You only need to unpack your things once in your state room. You can choose the tours you want to participate in or stay on board. There are always great views and plenty of fresh air upstairs on the top floor of the ship.

On board a Grand Circle river cruise to Eastern Europe and the Black Sea that my mother and I recently took, was a 92 year old WW2 vet named Ray. He was traveling by himself on back to back European tours and was completely mobile and very independent. Due to his wife's health issues, Ray was unable to travel when he was younger, so he was making up for lost time!

That said, can you be too young for a river cruise? A couple in their late 60's told me the only reason they were on the tour was because Eastern Europe was difficult on one's own. Most everywhere else they traveled, they were their own tour guides.

A friend had told them years ago they "were too young for a cruise," which adivce they'd apparently taken to heart. They'd had some wonderful trips but admitted they didn't learn as much as on a guided tour.

The average age on board seemed to be late 60's with outliers in the 40's and 90's. Would my twenty-something daughers be bored and tire of eating three meals daily with older people? Most definately. So perhaps you can be too young for a traditional river cruise, but never too old!
