About
Welcome! There are so many opportunities and pathways available to us today as we move into the second half of life. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do at a certain age (especially someone younger than you!) And seriously, when did "Boomer" become a derogatory term?
This blog is all about gaining the knowledge to make that second half the best it can be.

I talk to women who are burned out after cooking what seems like endless dinners while raising a family. And then as empty nesters they don't want to cook anymore so they tend to recycle the same old meals or pop a couple of sides from Trader Joe's into the microwave and call that dinner.
Which does have its place and I understand when it seems like too much trouble to make a big deal about cooking for just one or two.
However...I think we still deserve meals that are both healthy and delicious? At least, once in a while, because cooking can be fun.
That's why I provide healthy and easy to follow recipes and from scratch baking. To encourage you to give cooking another try. For youself, for a loved one, for the grandkids. Just because.
beginnings
My grandmother left her Boston home and moved to Rocheser, New York when she was first married. She brought this 19th-century general reference cookbook with her.
I learned to make lace sugar cookies and clover leaf rolls at her side. Her chocolate fudge and chocolate steamed pudding with hard sauce are still family favorites.

I do not consider myself to be a "foodie." I'm actually somewhat of a fussy eater. No mushrooms (don't like the texture) and the only kind of eggs I'll eat are scrambled.
That said, I do love breads and whole grains, most fresh fruits and vegetables. I also enjoy a good dessert after dinner. My grandfather said he used to eat a pound of chocolate a day in college. (He lived to be a hundred and one, so go figure.)
web designer
At one time I worked as a software engineer and small business web developer. I love to code and encourage girls to learn coding, though I waste far too much time fiddling with this website.

In a former life I spent a lot of time in hanging out in darkrooms. Oh my -- enlargers, dodging and burning, film! Digital has its advantages, but I gotta say, I miss those days.
